We have been pouring through the baby-name books and have found a couple of names that we really like and actually agree on. One may be listed above and be from your suggestions…you never know. Yea!
The only thing that gives us pause is the description in one of our books, titled “Cool Names for Babies”. It seems that almost ALL of the names we like fall into the segment on page 41 labeled “Neo-Yuppie Cool Names”. After reading the description for this title and the subsequent list of names included in this category, we came to a stunning conclusion…we like many of the names in this section and you, dear friends, may actually have named your children with one of these choices. Read on to see if YOUR KID is listed in partial list of names we attached.
THE DESCRIPTION:
“Neo-Yuppie Cool Names”
There is a certain kind of name that is considered cool by that segment of the upwardly mobile yet politically correct population we might call neo-yuppies. Neo-yuppies – the newest version of the 80’s yuppies and 90’s bobos – like distinctive things but abhor ostentation - they have good taste but disdain convention; they appreciated the classics but prefer them with a modern twist. The names they like are to the left of the most popular list but far to the right of most choices in this book. You’ll see them on the rosters of upscale nursery schools and hear them in the playgrounds of affluent neighborhoods, and you may like them yourself. And why not? They’re good names, classic as well as cool, embodying style along with history. The only problem is that you may hear them far more than you want to in the years to come."

Doh! I knew Monico didn't stand a chance. And I'm not sure I agree with the neo-yuppie description relating to all of those names you listed at the end. Maybe neo-puppy associations(Poor upwardly mobile...).
And what would the opposites be? Any names you'd see on a bowling shirt? Midge, Hal, Chet, Audrey? -Pep
I like it. "They’re good names, classic as well as cool, embodying style along with history" No one ever said I "embodied style". I could do without the popularity but I gave up that when I found out that Max was the most popular name for a dog!
I love, love, love Eleanor. If my niece weren't named Ella, that would be at the top of my list for sure.
I can't believe our poor child has "neo-yuppie" parents!!!
Man, I DO hear those names all over! It's especially apparent over at Mattocks Park, where we (drive over to) play in the Mac-Groveland area. Wowza. Now that name Thomond on the list, that's cool, that's a great name...
Neo-yuppie. I like it better than Bobo, which always seemed like my sister-in-law but not quite me. I'm glad to be classified as something other than Gen-X. It seems more adult.

I never expected to see any of my kids names on the NEO-YUPPIE list! We are so NON yuppie! Excpet that we live in Eden Prairie which screams yuppie in certain neighborhoods! Levi - come on! He is named after jeans!
I'm with Amy - I was thrilled to hear that my name is "classic as well as cool, embodying style along with history." Then I remembered that my parents are NOT neo-yuppies and the only baby name book they looked to for the names of me and my siblings was the Holy Bible. Not that there's anything wrong with that... Biblical Anna apparently held baby Jesus at some point.
guess we're neo yuppies too - LOL... we picked all the names below when prego with our last one.
Eleanor
Kate
Lily
Levi
Max
Noah
you know we ended up with Noah or Noahie as we call him. It was a hard decision btwn Noah and Levi, LOVE that one too!! Hey where does Alexander fall - surprised I didn't see that one ;-)
HUGS and wishing you an easly delivery and health to you and baby!
